Kino Lorber has acquired North American rights to SXSW prize winner Story Ave, starring Luis Guzmán and Asante Blackk and directed and co-written by debut filmmaker Aristotle Torres. Shot on location in the Bronx, the film won a Special Jury Award for Cinematography at SXSW for the work of DP Eric Branco (The Forty-Year-Old Version, Clemency). Kino Lorber will release Story Ave theatrically in October, followed by a digital and home video release on all major platforms.

Award-winning international film distribution company Kino Lorber and First Look Media announced today that they are forming a new joint venture to house both First Look’s Topic streaming service and Kino Lorber’s MHz Choice. The new company will now operate both Topic streaming and MHz Choice, with Kino Lorber owning the majority stake and assuming management oversight of both.

Kino Lorber announced that it has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to the National Film Board of Canada documentary feature Ever Deadly, an immersive and poetic portrait of avant-garde Inuk throat singer and multi-hyphenate artist Tanya Tagaq. Co-directed by Tagaq and the award-winning documentary filmmaker Chelsea McMullan, Ever Deadly explores Tagaq’s mastery of the art of throat singing and features live performances by the singer-songwriter, novelist, and activist. Kino Lorber is planning a theatrical release later this year, followed by a home video release as well as a digital release on all major platforms.

Kino Lorber in association with Zeitgeist Films have announced the acquisition of all North American distribution rights to Desperate Souls, Dark City and the Legend of Midnight Cowboy, an illuminating deep dive into the production of John Schlesinger’s film by acclaimed documentarian Nancy Buirski (The Loving Story, The Rape of Recy Taylor). Continuing the relationship between these two leading distributors of arthouse and international films, Zeitgeist will open the film theatrically in North America beginning at New York’s Film Forum in late June before expanding nationwide, followed by a digital, educational, and home video release on all major platforms by Kino Lorber.

The film stars Triangle of Sadness actor Harris Dickinson and newcomer Lola Campbell. Scrapper was awarded the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic following critical praise for both actors’ performances as well as the poignant and imaginative script from Regan. Scrapper will next bow as the Opening Night film at Sundance London, followed by a theatrical release via Kino Lorber later this year as well as a digital and home video release on all major platforms.

Night Shyamalan. The film will make its North American premiere at New Directors/New Films with director Carlos Conceição and actor João Arrais in attendance, followed by a theatrical release via Kino Lorber on April 12.
